why cant we just click on the picture we like, from the profile and vote for it there and then?
drives me mad trying to get to the pictures i like, specially if they are in the high heel section, could take hours...

Sounds like a really simple idea. As the site grows the voting will become even more difficult to actually find the pics you want to vote for.
The current system was fine back when i first joined but with so many new members now it's just not a good way to do it anymore. You could even limet the number of vote each member could give in a set period.
Good idea to re-think it all i say, dont know if its possible to do it but well worth a re-vamp.

i admit i'm not a professional photographer
but i am an artist and i know what is and isn't
aesthetically pleasing. i also know that
everyone has different tastes (like me
personally, i can't stand the extra-long pointy
toed heels). a 1 should be reserved for a shot
that is an absolute piece of crap with nothing
at all redeeming about it. i've never given
anything lower than a 6 myself, feeling that
if i don't like it that much i don't vote for it
at all. i would like to see comments attached
to votes, where people can take ownership
of the 1's they vote and explain why they
feel the picture deserves what they gave it.
i want constructive criticism where i can
try to improve my photography skills so
we can ALL enjoy better pictures.

I agree 100% with panzerkunst's comments (except the observation about long pointy toes, which I happen to like!).
Many of us spend lots of money to buy expensive sexy shoes and spend lots of time photographing them in difficult situations.
Then to have some dickhead come along and casually give it a 1 out 10 makes me crazy mad!

I agree with you sluttyheels. There are over 69,000 submitted pictures and certain categories like "High Heeled Shoes" are huge. In the beginning it was interesting to randomly sort through the posts and vote, but luckily we have outgrown that stage on the website.
Shoejack should obviously weigh in on this issue.
The only downside to all of this that I could see happening is people voting for their own pictures because it is easier to access and vote over and over.

interesting point... never thought of that, maybe u could be blocked from voting for your own pictures?
i suppose really its mostly a trust thing.. if u are going to vote on yr own pictures its pretty sad dont u think?
as for the 1 votes... weve all been there and ranted and raved about it, but it still happens... the thing is not to get too upset, and yes this is me speaking lol... have faith in your art

I have been reading the posts on the whole voting issue and it seems we are in excatly the same place as we were when i joined way back. Same old low voteing keeps croppig up and has been one of the main reasons for arguemnet on here, in the end you just think "get a life" to those who delight in voting 1 for perfectly good pictures. The freedom this site is run with is one of it's best features but you will always get those who try to ruin it for others.
I will agree that a new way of voteing should be reviewed, it just doesn't work with so many members and nearly 70000 pictures to vote on and maybe that would reduce the low voteing problems, being able to click a certain picture and vote for it sounds best although the number of votes may need to be limited per member per day or somthing and also that you cant vote for your own pic as well. or we would all have 10's LOL
Think we need to ask SJ to let us all know what is possible and what is not and we look to the future and the ever growing of this great site.
And what this i read from SH very conservative i have to say LOL wheres the fire girl !!

new pic just got a 1... this could be cos its in a different catergory so im coming across a different type of voter, thats the calm me... on the other hand im bloody annoyed cos its not that bad, so mystery 1 voter whoever u are... you are a coward and jealous as hell... and u deserve all u get, which is probably nothin cos yr not fit to be near... wankin over pix is as close as u will get to a real woman... thankfully. ok Cathy??? Just read the comment by SH on the voting of 1 for one of her latest pictures.
Anyone who thinks any of those shots is a 1 must have clicked on to the wrong site. Surely they must have been looking for I'm a complete tosser.com must be a very good member of that club.
If thats your opinion of amazing pics on here ,then why not go elsewhere for your pathetic kicks and leave those who enjoy the efforts of those posting to enjoy them

Ok, so as a site assistant i have to try and remain on the fence but when i hear comments about perfectly good, ( well bloody great) pictures getting 1 then i have to wonder about why some member are on here. I think we may need to assess certain members voting patterns and decide if they deserve to be on here.
Would love to hear from the member who voted 1 for that picture to understand what it was about it that was so wrong.
It had
1, sexy shoes
2, great legs
3,sexy outfit
what more has a girl got to do to get good scores.
Nice to see the fire is still well and truly alight SH. Forget the dickheads, we think you rock girl!!

exactly my point! the pic of ours that got a 1
is the shot with her on the bed on her back
looking at the camera, legs in the air between
the two pictures on the wall. it has:
1. great legs
2. cute shoes
3. adorable feet in those shoes
so why a '1'? the things *i* would fault it
are:
1. the dream catcher annoys me
2. red shoes instead of black would've been a
better contrast
3. i wish she were smiling a bit more :)
hardly enough to bring it down to a 1 in my
completely biased opinion.

I usually don't vote very often anymore these days for the same reason. It does suck not getting to vote on a photo you like, insted having to go through a bunch at random. I think this may help adjust the ratings to a more realistic level for many photos.
As far as "downvoters" who give people 1s, well, they're just probebly either stupid cowards hiding behind their screens or someone who is not very familiar with English and the voting system thus making them vote 1s when they mean to vote 10s.
When I upload a photo, I appriciate the Comments people like to give me, both in Comments section and through Private Messages. That is how I know people actually like to view the photos I put up.

Hey guys,
This is the same thing we were talking about over a year ago, is 1 being used as the best vote, but when it was looked into, the members who were found to be voting consistanly low were not doing it by mistake but were using the 1 as a skip button and were quite open about it. If they had used the 5 then maybe it would not have been so clear.
Anyway i'm with SH, dont give those few who are voting 1 any excuse, they can always ask if they are unclear about which is a high vote.

Hmm, I do remember those threads about the 1 voters. I almost forgot that the ones who were found were just doing to it be mean. But I still am with the thread starter's idea on getting to vote for which photo you want rather than a random pic, as well as resetting the ratings perhaps. I rarely vote, but it does upset me a bit when I see some really high quality members with really low ratings.

this is what we want to encourage.. voting isnt it? not being able to get to the picture u do want to vote for, puts you off voting at all, which is a great shame... it would open up the site tremendously to have an easier way to get to the picture you like and this would reflect in the leader boards... plus does anyone else have trouble wen browsing through pictures that u get the same ones over and over?? it puts me off, u just get caught in a loop
an afterthought... maybe easier to use the profile bar to vote on the main pic, instead of the whole profile... ?
just had an idea... wot if u could click on yr own pick and get a mini break down of the votes cast... not who from necessarily.... would stop this 1 voting i think, plus give u a general view on what others think of yr pix

I'm in total agreement that the voting thing needs to be looked at and changed due to the problems given.
Before we can do anything we need to have SJ's input to know what we can and cant have. What may seem simple to us could meand a huge amount time and maybe unworkable.
So lets by all means have some ideas of what we would like, but give a thought to the guy who has to make the changes needed. Could mean wipeing the board clean and starting again??
Hope SJ will be back in charge within the next 2 weeks so we shall see what he think on his return

It would be good to know just what it is that we think we want to change and how it could improve the voting. Cant see what ever we do will change the idiots who delght in scoreing 1's but we can but try. so lets have constuctive ideas and thoughts and then when SJ is back we can see how much of it can be done!

If folks are using the "1" score as a means to PASS to the next shot of thier liking, maybe we could simply add a PASS button to the voting bar to help offset the crisis of confidence.
As far as the "1 by mistake - I think you are GREAT" logic, its tempting, but SJ's scale on the voting bar is pretty clear. Color coding perhaps? Bright Green on the 10 side, ugly dark dark red on the 1 side? Possibilities...

Hey this is so good to see people interested in the whole issue.
The skip button is certainly a good suggestion and we have had this idea before, and i'm not sure why we dont have it in place already.
As for SH's comment that the forum is full of ideas, i do agree. The thing is that most are just on the surface level and may not be workable.
For instance if we can click on any pics we like and vote 10 then two members coud vote each others pics to the top of any board in 10 clicks!!
I can see the boards changing on an hourly basis if each person can award in that way. The same can still happen in reverse as well with low votes, i could see chaos if we all had free reign in this way. So do we cap the number of votes any member can give in 24 hours to say 5?
I'm all for changeing the system but it has to one that works well . and stops the silly voting that still seems to take place.
Does anyone know of any other sites that operate a good voteing system?

maybe surface level changes are the ones that will work best, nothing too complicated. the same suggestions come up time after time because maybe they are the most popular or the most obvious... when SJ has a look, he may be able to adapt some if not all of the ideas... we just dont know, so keep on with the suggestions, im sure there are a lot of computer experts in our community.. speak up and give us some workable suggestions :-) the simplest ideas are usually the best x

i suppose its inevitable that this will go on... u form attachments to other members through chat and like to reciprocate by voting their pictures a bit higher than anyone else's, its human nature. i would hope that the elusive perfect 10 on a leader board would be something very special. ive yet to see it, but hope to one day...
the competition voting always seems to be a fair way of doing things, maybe this could be adapted to the regular voting process?

i think it's going to almost impossible to come up with a solution that will not be open to abuse in some form. maybe the best we can try for is one where we can select the pics we vote for but that we only have a max number of votes per day to give, just an idea, and not be able to vote for our own pics

Well now i feel in great company, managed 4 10's and then a 1 vote for my latest main pic. So it's not just the girls that get pissed at stupid voting. About time we had another name and shame table like we had before to see if it's certain people who are doing this for fun.
I know those running the site dont want to be over seeing these things all the time and have better things to be doing i'm sure, but it does spoil the whole idea of the rating system. which is a good idea in theory.

mandershoes has given me a very interesting idea for low votes: any votes below a fixed number (let's pick 3) and the person who voted gets redirected to a page where he/she is being asked to justify the rating. If no messages are put, the vote is ignored. Otherwise, the message is sent to the picture owner. Might not be that hard to implement (don't cry shoejack, I'll help you!)
Update: thanks panzerkunst666 for pointing out that you had already mentioned it earlier in this thread... Good thing I did not take credit for it on top of that!!!

just wouldnt want to get a message saying... i think yr pix are crap so i gave u a 1... the 1 is bad enough, do i really need to know why i got it specifically?
maybe a multiple choice response is better, instead of free text choose A B or C... for instance :-
A = poor quality, ie blurred
B = not my thing
and so on... would be kinder to the person receiving the negative vote..
alternatively could u monitor scores on yr main picture by say right clicking on the picture to reveal the last few votes? dont know if this is at all possible... im not a techie
and if all this is possible... surely we should be able to vote on the picture we want to vote on there and then from the profile without trawling thru catergories for hours.and still not finding the one u want ....
