In the past the leader boards have been a great source of interest, problems and fun. With so many categories now it is impossible to have them all shown on the right hand side of the page, would make it far too long. To my mind i think the boards are more of interest to us lady members so do any of you have any thing to offer on the subject. Such as which categories you want to see most, if we just show the top 3 or 4 we could have more shown, maybe they should have a seperate page to themselves, maybe you dont think we should have them at all, be good to hear your opinions

must admit, i look forward to seeing who is top, maybe it is a woman thing i like the competition, gives u something to aim for and lots of ideas for pictures. i would hate to lose any of them to be honest, maybe top two could be shown of each catergory? to make room...

Any way to have it so that the categories that show up are shuffled? Like, so if you refreshed the page the leaderboards displayed change, sort of how it used to be with the featured profiles on the home page, have a different I don't know...4 or 5 categories everytime, just random.

now we just need a solution to the vast high heel shoes catergory... its hopeless trying to find the shoe shots u want to vote for.... previous suggestions on voting for the pic u want straight from the profiles have fallen on deaf ears... any other suggestions?
i vote the profile when i cant get to the picture i like without spending hours trawling through... unfortunately the profile bar isnt always there, why is this?

I do agree that maybe the whole ratings system is not really working as it should. It was fine when there were less members and less pics to score but some categories are vast now and even if you see a pic you want to vote for it could take hours of clicking to finally find it, so will put on my thinking cap and see what ideas we can come up with. Pls do give your ideas as well!!

Shoejack - the new method of showing Member Scores for the ranking in the leader boards seems to be working, I just feel like some contributions might be missing. I know several other members like me have posted better pictures than mine as "Found Shoes" and I am sure they have a higher score than mine - they are not presently shown in the leader board.
I know its a work in progress, and I know you are working very hard to spruce the site up - no complaints from me. I just ask that you check your algorythm for the rack&stack - I think some friend's contributions might be overlooked.

It does improve visibility. Problem is, members that have been around for a while have a lower overall profile score (think "1" votes...) So let's say I manage to get a perfect 10 on a picture (OK I'm dreaming!), it will never show up on the leader boards.
How about doing an average of the all the pics posted to that particular category instead?
Another method would be to go podium style, and exclude a member once it has been listed: #1 member A, then #2 member b with the second best score and so on...

Re Neil's post I have set it so that only premium members who have been voted for at least 15 times are shown. Single pic members are not shown.

its good to see a variation of members and pictures on there...
unfortunately it depends on the channel you are in as to where you are on the leader boards... the overall profile rating is shown, which isnt a true reflection of the content of that profile. I dont know how its worked out, is it better to have less pix? this is a conundrum...

i think the main problem with the new idea is shown with the leader on the boots board. Nothing against the very pretty young lady who is very welcome on here but she only has a few boots shots and there are many many more profiles with far better boots pictures on them, so really that board is not showing the best of the best in that category so what exactly does it show us i'm not sure at all!!
At least with with the old system it was a voting for the best picture of that type, it's only the stupid voting by a few members that spoils it.
It's actually great that we are talking about it all anyway.

Instead of the old way of being able to vote on all pics in each category if you could find them, or the new way which dosen't really seem to show the best pics in each category, would it be possible that each member could select a picture from any category they wanted too to be voted on.
This would mean each category would have it's own mini competition i guess, and members could place one pic at a time in each area to be voted on, then if they wanted to change to another pic in the same category it starts from scratch again.
This would have the benifit of not having one member in all the top spots and would give a regular change of pics maybe. this maybe totally unworkable but seems a good idea to me

To clarify how the boards now work:
Each picture in your profile is still voted for (it doesn't matter what category they are in) these votes along with any profile votes go to make your overall profile score. So the score is a direct reflection of what members think of your profile pics.
The category that your main picture is in will dictate which leader board you are on.
The way they maths work it really doesn't matter if you have a lot of pics or a few .Additionally only members with 20 plus pics can get onto the boards.
There are many advantages with this method: it does give far more members a chance to get up there and it also means that the pic you see on the board is the one that you will go to when you click on it.
You may have fun seeing if you can get enough points to be able to be at the top of any leader board you choose. Just set your main pic to that category.
NOTE: I will be conducting a 'drugs test' on the leaders on the boards to cut out any cheating. Some members have voted for themselves or across two profiles in order to get onto the boards. This will now no longer be possible.

I can see the idea behind the new system but you still get members on top of boards that may have very little to do with there actual pictures they have on there profiles, again the boots is a prime exarmple and if youn have a look at top couples, dangling and found shoes categories you will find very little to do with those boards being shown on the top spot profiles. Maybe it comes downto the category the pics are posted into.
I'm happy to go with whatever the way we work it but the monthly competion is not going to work unless members choose it as there channel i guess .
It's good to be talking about it all at least.

if u want to be on the boards at all it seems u can never change yr main pic once u get there...
prime example, i was top of the extreme heels board, changed my pic to one that has only a few votes, cum shot catergory... ive now disappeared from the extreme heels board altogether. so... do i change back? or wait... decisions, decisions... the main pic is the one that is voted on the most as its the first one u see, others are lost in the vast show catergory section... this is a real poser...
as you say RZ, the competition will disappear unless u have your entry as your main pic

I posted a pic and it has not shown up... The comp. rules clearly state that the pic used may not be your main picture... However Someone else posted one and had it as the main picture and low and behold there it was in the Competition Category...I guess that we could do away with the voting all together and just have a comments page to let every one know how they are doing.

I was curious why there are some people on the site who after they get 4-5 votes and a high score, they lock it down where nobody can vote on them again. I think if you have a picture on this site, then everyone should have the right to vote on it. I also think that if it is set up to where a person can keep other people from voting on their pics, then they should not be able to vote on any ones photo.

True they are not on the boards but they do have some control as to who is on them... As they have the ability to vote on all pics on the site. I think that if you shut off your voting option then you should not be able to vote on any pictures on the site. The Boards themselves are fine, I kinda like the format, it does allow for more profiles to be seen. I agree with that...

with most others in that it's good to see different members profiles up on the boards, but i have to say when i look at some of the top spot holders in many categories i cant see how they can be the best in those areas, it's certainly true of at least 4 board.
So when i see the leader of the boots board should i not expect to see some great boots pictures included in that profile too? Same applies for other areas as well.
A i understand it i could put 1 boots pic as my chosen picture and have no other boots pics on my profile and still be top of the board, is that right?
Could just me not getting it here of course LOL

your main pic has to match which channel you are in to remain on a leader board. if you change your channel you could get on another board but disappear from the first one.. therefore whichever channel u choose u will only ever appear once. so no it doesnt matter whats on the rest of your profile. and you will only ever have the profile score. i doubt we will ever see a ten this way, but you never know...

I have been doing alot of thinking on this and have decided that it really does not matter what the score is... We are all here for the same reason: we all love shoes of some type. Yes it is nice to get voted on and have the vote mean something, but in all reality it is just a popularity contest. Why don't we just do away with the general voting and categories and just have a monthly competition? Those that want to post to it can, and those that don't do not have to. But let that be the only thing that is voted on.

For me i think the idea of the votes is still a goosd one and should be added fun value and not the be all and end all.
There would be no problems as long as members gave reasonable votes based on content, style and clarity given the category the picture is placed into.
My idea of each category having it's own competion still sounds a good one to me. Members could then post one picture in any of the chosen categories so you would still not have one member in all the top spots, but then if the member wanted to try another pic then they remove the one and replace it and see how it does!! This would keep interest and i would understand that the leader boards were showing me the best of that type of picture. Maybe thats not possible or too much work to do but it sounds a good idea. What does anyone else think?

whether people admit it or not, they like to be seen on the leader boards... infact some go to extreme lengths to make sure they get on there... so lets get real... we all want to be admired and we all want others to think we are good... its just a matter of how we do it. am sure theres an answer out there, we just need to find it :-)

so you want one pic posted for each catergory, or catergory of choice. there would be a lot more scope for more members to get on the boards... and it would cut down the searches on the "show" catergories... you choose which pic u want voting on, and they are the only pix in the show catergory, but can still be linked to the profile, this would cut down the search immensely... at the moment all the pix posted in each catergory are in the search... theres something in this idea

going back to the debate over the leader boards, are we going to be keeping the present set up or going back to the original one or even something new?
Maybe we could have a poll on it?
Have been talking to a number of members who also dont understand the new leader boards any more. than i do. In fact i think it's a dis-incentive to members who like to post to try to get on the boards. I still fail to see what the represent now when you have members on top of boards with very little content to do with the category they are showing in. Lets hear from other members on here as to there opinions?

Thanks for letting me know i'm not the only one.
I think the idea was to stop 1 or 2 members from having lots of top spots in any one category but if that person posted the best 5 shots then i dont have a problem with that at all as long as the voting has been fair.
I can see the boars do change more now but as to what they are showing me i still have no idea either.
Wouls be great to have lots of opinions on this

the idea was to stop cheating i believe, there was a lot of cross voting going on and although on the surface this has stopped, the incentive to gain a place on the leader board has also dwindled, the emphasis now is to get a higher profile rating which seems to be nigh on impossible unless you change your channel to the catergory of your main pic... and why bother when the leader board will only ever reflect the profile score... and so it goes on... round and round

When the photos get uploaded, they are entered into a category for the type of picture it falls in to. I see some folks get confused on what category the picture goes in (boots in the wooden shoes category for instance).
I feel the leader board scores should ride picture for picture based on type - and not really align with any sort of "Member Average". A member who posts some awesome shoe job shots in their profile and then "finds" a sneaker by the side of the road might enter the sneaker as a Found Shoe - and that found shoe goes to the top of the Found Shoes board based on the great shoe job pics they post - that seems out of kilter to me.
And yes, this seems like a huge amount of site maintenance and programming to go through. I cannot fathom ShoeJack putting that sort of major reconstruction effort into the site to make that happen. I respect too much the fact that this site exists for fans like us at all - my desires are simple. I don't personally worry too much about the leader board scores too much. Its fun - its interesting. Not a worry.
I LOVE THIS SITE. I Love the contributions everyone makes - as fans of shoes in all thier variations. I thank each of you for making this world sensual and accessable to all of us.
