Do messages delete automatically after a period of time? Yesterday I had plenty of messages, sent and received. Today there are no received, and two sent. Any ideas?

imm pretty sure its a clean up

Hi All
I ran a clearout on all read messages as the server load was slowing the site.
To clarify how the system works, and why there is no delete on the sent message box: when the person you have sent it to deletes it from their inbox, the message also disappears from your sent box. There are thousands and thousands of messages in the system at any one time so you can imagine the server load.
I would prefer not to have to run a big clear out as i know that it does cause an upset to many people. Please keep on top of deleting the messages from your inboxes to avoid me having to run a mass clearance.
Huge apologies to anyone who lost an important message.
I will next track down old messages that were sent a long time ago and that have never been read.
Also please ensure that your email address is up to date if you message notification turned on.

I have a number of messages sent but not read what now? And a message that was read but was there a reply?
