the subject has come up again... why rate a one when u can just pass on a pic u dont like??? how many of us have had a picture rated high with 7 or 8 votes... then just when u think you may get a shot at a leader board... the ninth or tenth vote is a low one... previously ive always thought its new people getting carried away voting everything a one... now i think its more tactical... other thoughts on this please... plus no matter how many times its explained to me, i still dont understand the overall profile rating lol

After receiving some good reviews some A-HOLE gives me a 1 then goes to a another and does the same thing! I believe it's a tactical move for someone who can't post their own original shots and maybe posting shots from other sites! I was mad at first, but I have developed a few site friends and they appreciate my pics as well as all of yours!! That's really all I need!!

nah.......cant be arsed, loads of web shots entered
Edit SJ: I will post a large notice for comp entry criteria.
Professional / web finds are placed into the 'professional' category which is not rated and therefore the images are not found when searching or rating.

Didnt say pp wont be posting but it means a trip to Aldo tomorrow (oh poor me) to pick up a pair of killer 4inch slingbacks. PP has tried them but with small feet they didnt stay on so we left them. I was gutted but was happy to leave as the male assistant was lingering a little too long at pp feet and commented on her toe ring (probably a member of HSS) THE SWINE!
Anyway, now I have an excuse to buy her the black shoes, though not practical, they would make a nice entry.

Sometimes, I do feel whether or not the person is rating by if they like that type of shoe rather than other qualities. Like if you have a sneaker shot, but it looks really good and is decent quality, you might get a 1, where if you have a mega platform heel, they might rate you a 10 just on that, even though the photo looks ultra blurry and lo quality. But I stopped caring on the ratings a long time ago myself. To me, if they don't like my photos, tough crap for them, I post my photos up for those who would like them to enjoy.

i think on the whole its agreed... ignore the idiots who vote 1 totally!! so never be disheartened if you get this score because its not a genuine comment on anyones picture... picture quality can be hard for some of us without expensive cameras or lighting but we try lol

The ratings system is daft anyway as it is open to abuse. And becaus epoeple dont understand it when they look ay your profile and see a main pic - thye will rate it low if they odnt like it thinking that each pic is rateable when it isnt.
My advice is it doesnt really matter who is top of leaderboards. Just turn the ratings off and let the silly idiots who rate everyhing a one, not get any more kicks

Got to say that i do get upset about the abuse of the ratings on here and i have often said so.But I do also think it would be a great shame to scrap it. It does give a bit of fun to the site and also generally, the best overall profiles do get the best overall average scores. The monthly competion is a good added catagory, i many who dont often get seen can join in more, and thats what it is all about on here. All we can ask is that the people who try to ruin it just stop voteing unless they have somthing to really add and that SJ is to publish the top ten of those who are the most persistant at doing it without just cause!! As with most things in life it just takes a few idiots to spoil everybodies fun!!

Yes of course. Who doesnt like o be admired. But then you ladies like myself I am sure, get about 10 emails per day telling you that you are being admired (and a whole lot more dont we know it) haha. SO I guess either way we get the attention - but cathy is right - as is always the way in this country - the majority are penalised due to the minority. Such is life. So long as we enjoy what we do etc....

the basic idea of rating and the leader boards is good... it adds a different dimension to this site, as do the forums and the chat room, altho that is very under used it think, just a thought here... why not have different rooms inside the one main chat room, choose a title for yr chat and other members can join in the one they want to ie just women... or just for men... do u get the drift?

This is going off thread so feel free to delete it SH . But I would chatroom more if i knew who i was chatting to before i went in , it's always seems rude just to go in and click out if you dont like the people you find. Also if your talking by message which i like to do then you cant keep going in and out og the chat room. Just a few thoughts from my point of view!!

My take on a couple of very good points here: Re ratings: I take an occasional look at the ratings stats to see if there is anyone abusing it. I have just removed a new member for voting all images 1. Freedom of choice etc but we don't need folks who do this. Re chat room(s) I did originally have multiple chat rooms but the down side of chat rooms is the amount of server memory that they take to run. Just two chat rooms brought the server down early on! Lots of really pissed emails from the server host along the lines of 'what the f do you think you're doing' The alternative is to use an external chat room host like blast chat who run the rooms on their servers. This is not quite so good because the members in the rooms are not linked back to their profiles. I will look into the options here and maybe try two rooms again! The point that Cathyc made re who is in the room is a good one, and I will see if I can do anything about this - time is always an issue - a crust to earn etc. One 'trick' when using the room is too open a new browser window and have that open on the site while the other window is in the chat room. (if you catch my drift) SJ

maybe some kind of chat preview could be sorted, or at least a list of members inside the room, before u go into it? that would keep yr annonymity before u decide to go or stay... will the new site have this facility? or something similar?
and dont worry about going off topic anyone... its my forum and i say do what u feel lol
which reminds me when u turn yr ratings off, this protects yr overall profile rating... is this right? does this mean you can still vote on individual pictures? just wondered...

i really think members who have switched off their voting should not be allowed to vote on others pictures... what do you think?

I agree . And also if member has voting switched off then rating should revert back to zero .

Surely, at the end of it all, voting on pictures is just a bit of fun.
Whilst there is no accounting for taste those of us who vote and get voted upon have to accept that it's an open voting system. And such a system is open to abuse (tactical voting) and there will always be the odd loophole here and there.
But it is **just a bit of fun**.
Members should be allowed to opt in or opt out if they want. They should not have any previous ratings set to zero because that rating was earned under the rules of the system.
:-))

setting to zero should be enforced when members have been found to be voting ones consistently, or cross voting.. would be a good deterrant members have the option to turn off their voting, thats cool with me.. i just dont think they should vote on other members pix if they choose to do this... if you are going to opt out, go the whole hog not just half measures..

Mr WAS! - well hello (get off my iPad, you're supposed to be watching Frasier!) haha. Yes good point, but -
Sluttyheels. You could say I am one of the biggest culprits then, because 98% of times I vote, it is a 1. ;-)
Purely becasue the only times I do vote is when I find profiles which consist of one picture only, which also happens to be an internet image, (and we all know how I feel about that).
A lot of these profiles have scores of 10, becasue they have only been voted on once. So I instantly vote them a 1 to bring their score down from 10 before I add them to my list to kick off the site.
(my last list I made about three days ago ended up with about 20 accounts on which were guilty of this)
So you see, although this may be futile it shows voting 1's does have its benefits also :-)
(fair doo's I'm doing it to make the site fairer, not becasue I am voting my preference so I understand what you are saying. Just had to thrown that one in there hehe ;-)
