Not wanting to re-open a storm of rating debates BUT seriously I have been looking at the voting patterns and have to say that a few members are consistently giving a vote of only 1 to some seriously good pictures that deserve far more.
I can understand a 1 for a professional image as a protest vote at the lack of effort or where the image is the size of a postage stamp taken without flash in a coal miners back passage (now thats really dark) but a vote of 1 for a good image is just plain spiteful.
OK it's a democracy, and not all the pics are going to rock your world, but play fair and don't discourage and insult other members by giving the lowest possible vote when it is plainly not warranted.
The top 5 who don't know their 1's from 10's are:

Well done to you, this has been a constant problem for far two long and nameing those concerned may be the only possible answer!!
Got to say that i'm quite staggered by the number of votes of 1 that have been awarded by the above named members. I would really like to know from any of them the reasons behind there low voteing and was it only aimed at certain other members?
I can only see so many low scores as hurtful to those who have recieved them without justcie and wonder what is to be gained by it.
I have to ask myself are they on the wrong site?
Hope some of you 5 will let us know your reasons, i'd be happy to know them for one!!

The staggering thing is that by my reckoning #1's votes of 1 account for 2% of all the votes on HotShoeShots -EVER!!!!
and that's just from 1 guy. Phenomenal!

Banned the lot of them!
Hopefully now we will get a more true idea of what people actually think of our efforts.
Shame really as one of the ones on the list has made some really positive comments about our profile in the past.

Are you guys seriously going to get upset over a stupid number grade?Who cares about what anyone else thinks, the only opinion that matters is your own assessmentof the situation. If I cared about that, I would not be training to be a sports broadcastor right now. I am sure that everybody would call out a ransom for my head but I dont care.

I guess when you post almost all web pics then you don't care about ratings. Those who post their own pics have just cause to care .
Sorry but I don't get the connection between sports broadcasting and giving 5500 ratings of 1 ?

Too late to withdraw the votes Azarel, sums done and stored against profile info. Massive recalculations necessary to do this.
Whilst on the subject of ratings what do you all think of resetting everything to zero and running a monthly rating?

It's not what people think that's the issue here. These guys aren't thinking when they sit there pressing '1' after '1' after '1'.
At least a rating of three or four means the voter has maybe thought about the picture for a second or two ;)
I don't loose any sleep over it - but we for one do take notice - when a picture we submit gets consistantly high marks it gives us an idea of what the folks here like to see. When we do the next shoot we do take that into account. Having loads of random '1' votes chucked in (and we do) does mean that a photo gets a lower grade than perhaps it should.
SJ - I think the monthly reset is a great idea. We, and other people here, do remove photos that get low grades but of course the profile grade remains the same.

not sure... its took a long time to get the ratings weve got. startin from scratch with already rated pix may mean you wouldnt get the votes back and would have to submit new pix to get fresh interest... and what happens to the profile ratings???

Just do the math. It takes me about 10 seconds to rate a picture and move on to the next one.
jjericho69 has given 5473 ratings of "1". At 10 seconds per vote, that's over 15 hours of effort to offer such a negative rating.
I could certainly think of other ways to spend my time.

Godforbid anybody gets a "1" for their pic. Yeah I got carried away. It's over. deal with it.
Why do people care what other people think of thier shot shots? Are you that insecure? I post mine to share. Vote whatever you want. That's what the scale is for right? You don't like it..then vote "1" It's all a matter of opinions.
Good lord, there are some drama queens in here.
Shoejack...I haven't voted a 1 in a long time. So if you're going to ban me...go right ahead. I had fun. I met some great people here. Yourmale is far the best mate here. :)

How does one know who the vote came from? I thought rateings were "anonymous". Sorry, my question may seem a bit basic, but I must say I have been discouraged buy some of the "1" scores too.
Edit:
Each vote is recorded in detail with member name, time etc.

The 1 issue has been around since the site started, and everyone should expect someone to give them a 1 at some point.
It was a drastic decision to publish the top 5 as I knew that it might provoke something of a witch hunt against those members and that was not the intention.
I could have published the top 10 or 50 or 100 and perhaps we would have seen some surprising names on it.
It is not forbidden to vote 1, and removing the option to vote 1 to 5 simply makes 6 the new 1 (if you are still with me)
I published the top 5 to make members think a little more about the consequences of deciding to give a vote of 1.
I have lost count of the times that members have sent me a message upset about receiving an UNDESERVED vote of 1 for 1 of their images. The result of idiotic and uncaring voting is actually to put members off posting their images, so whilst I can understand the 'don't be so sensitive - its only a bit of fun' attitude, the members who think that way should understand that if they want to have MORE fun they should be encouraging sensitive members and not discouraging them with thoughtless voting.
I am not going to ban jjericho69 or any other member who votes 1 or there would be no members left, but if you want to ostracise yourself and have to explain your actions to everyone else go ahead and give everything a 1

I totally agree that members should not be banned if they have been voting '1'. I admit I have done so for images I have felt either disgusted by, or are clearly web-found shots, but when someone has spent so many hours -as pointed out before- on the site just going through pictures voting '1' we surely have to ask the question; "are they really a fan of shoes, or (probably more importantly) this site?!"
When there is that amount of indefensible voting, surely it would be a benefit to the site just to ban them?

I was thinking maybe something like a simple like button (kind of like facebook) would stop that. If you like a picture you click the like button and the top likes get posted as the top pics in their categories. And if you don't like it you just move on because there is nothing to click. That way people can still have pics that make it into the top category but no one can ruin someone’s raitings.

My thought was to show who voted on a picture. add 1 more column- vote/by/ for picture/uploaded by- may make it less tempting to vote 1 on every picture or because a member rejected them or to move themselves up in the ratings.
