In a recent thread i was asked what i had aginst people who voted low, my answer was nothing as long as the vote was a true reflection of the picture being voted on, so i post a new picture and it gets 3 votes of 10 and then a 1. WTF is that about.
The voting was a greatfun idea but the stupid members who seem to delight in doing it have ruined it all for me. I'd love to know what exactly the member who voted it 1 wants to see. Time to remove the voting bar i think and not bother any more, or is it time to get rid of the members who seem to love doing it. I know what i would do!!!!!
I thought you had to be over 18 to join here but it seems we have a few kids who like to play there silly games!!

So again I will respond out of acknowledgement but not exend into this long going debate. Yes, people all have different eyes or subjective views of what taste is in the first place. Then some people just choose a one to click pass the shot without even thinking at all about what they are doing. Personally the past 3 yrs I get ones on shots I think are 9-10 range & I have no shots on the leader boards at all & I take appealing shots with effort. So if your getting frustrated you might reconsider your perferences on voting in your profile. Sometimes you can delete and repost one you like. And if your getting lots of ones on your overall page send us a email it might be just one member in a bad mood and the Captain can check it out. Again, lets have fun with the heel love but we all appreciate the input no matter what. STU

It' got to the point where i really cant be arsed with it all anymore, i liked trying to take pics to get on the leader boards but it's just not working more now than it used too, too many pricks who vote to piss people off !!

Since its not the same as prior when most of those leader shots got those higher votes. There were less members then & more real active thinkers lets say voting. Cathy really got the competition up and going. I don't have room here to fully explain my point, but its very hard to get a vote over 8.5 since based upon average & probability just 1-2 low votes take you out of the top fast. So just enjoy the shots and forums and ignore the voting issue till some other better means develops.

Is there a way to make it where the only people that can vote are members? I mean, if you go through the rate shoe shots menus you can vote on any pic if you wade through them. And if this is the case, then a shot that a person does not like will more than likely get a lower vote as a means to "skip" that pic. So maybe if we limit the voting to those that are members and to those that have the voting turned on,(it seems only fair that if you are able to vote, then you should be able to be voted on.), then maybe it will help with the low votes.

its ok to vent here but theres like 2 other threads many pages long over the past 3 yrs I have been here on this issue. You cannot regulate peoples stupid behavior or tastes overall without firm regulators. Then that takes all the free fun out of it.
So from my perspective its under the bridge issue since the only real change will need to come from the owner & with the hosting sites features. Or send SJ a message along with your monthly payment donations $$$ to pay for the improvements. Yes I know thats not a soft shoe touch or its too negative, but again that's the bottom line sorry...Many changes have been tried FYI

Just because someone does not like a picture that you took and gave it a low vote, it must be personal... Really!!
As has been mentioned on countless posts about all topics, that this fantastic site is about expressing an individuals personal tastes.
This does not mean that all tastes will be the same as yours and the voting will show this... And before I get a million people saying it is jeolousy... Well, great, take it as a compliment!!
I take photos as my profession and so can speak with some authority about peoples tastes about pictures. Almost not a day goes by without someone winging about work I have done for them... It is galling, depressing, annoying...
Sometimes I want to scream at the people who have the funny looking, ugly, fat, skinny, closed eyes, vacant expressions, etc. etc, etc... looks in my pics, BUT, that is my opinion, not theirs, they love the horrendous portrates!!!
Just allow people to be themselves and if they want to be different, or petty, it's their call. Is it really important to be at the top of the voting?
Just enjoy Shoejacks superb site and let bygones be just that!!

well as for the voting averages... when i first joined i was told the leader boards were pretty locked down and hadnt changed and wouldnt probably change, that was wrong... so RZ dont give up. its a challenge, but its worth going after if you want to be on there... as for this being a rehashed subject, i agree yes it is, it keeps coming up but that prooves it is a concern to members and all we want is a solution to it... theres a lot of brains out there, a lot of suggestions have been made in the past and not acted upon, i assume because they werent feasable or cost effective. but this subject will continue to come up until someone somewhere solves it... so i suppose we had better get used to it. conversation about it wont end because you want it to.

I'm not moaning because another member dosen't like my picture, if it only is worth a 1 then fine, but there is no way in anyones book that that pic ( My current main) is only worth a 1. It's good quality, has my wife wearing her new shoes ,what more is it that people want.
We took time to get some nice shots and it was a big step for her to go outside to do those pics and such stupid voting will not exactly encourage her to do more will it!!
If a member doesn't like a pic why choose 1 to skip it, why not 5 or 6 if the effort has been put into the picture thats is being showed. If the ratings ar egoing to work then members have to use it in a sensible fashion.

My suggestion would be to have a "I Like" button or link. The same way Facebook has it. This was a picture would say 150 people like this picture. Thats it simple and solves the problem.

would be to remove buttons 1-3, or 4.. then no one will get a vote that changes their average in any meaningful way and also the low voters might think first before they do it and not use the remaining buttons as a next pic facility... they might just think twice... and not vote at all... win win??

WTF is the point i'm still asking, i changed my main pic to one thjat was just as good and i got just what i expected as well a vote of 1. WTF is the point of that!! Why are we even bothering about trying tio restart the competition when there is no point to it with stupid voting !!!!

For people who vote - the options of removing 1-4 seems pointless and defeats the object. Lets face it - the only reason there is a rate scale is for the people who take part in competitions as this is how the score is determined. To avoind being marked low, i dont think you ever could. Even if you put an I like, or I disslike, the disslike is still a negative isnt it. Also the latter option would make those who are bothered about competitions harder to judge, but then it could go off the total amount of "I likes" on a particular photo. Either way, im not too fussed and I dont do competitions or anything but the way I see it, is as this site proves, like everything else on the net - no matter what you do or who you try to please there will always be those who try to use the net as a weapon, be that making you low or whatever. You cant please everyone so they will mark you low if its not a "cock in a heel" shot for example. But then also if yuo dont reply to all the emails you get, like the ones saying ridiculous and gross comments, then those people mark you low too. So theres many reasons people mark you low, theres no getting away from it unless you turn your voting off or get rid of it totally. Im suggesting neither, but unfortunately this will always happen, simply due to people preference and/or ignorance

i find myself agreeing with most of what WAS says... its easy to say there are always people who vote low and thats true for whatever reason... but accepting it and doing nothing about it is a bit defeatist, there must be some way of minimising the upset this can cause surely... i still feel there is a solution out there that will please most of the members who do enjoy the competition side of this site... as for the monthly competitions... they not only produced some amazing pictures, they brought the membership together and i for one miss them

I have to say that we seem to be holding up our hands to those who spoil the competition side of things on here and say oh well just put up with there crap.
Surely there are things that can be done and the pattern of those who constantly vote 1 for no good reason can be seen , it clearly states on the home page that action will be taken, lets have a look and see who it is that votes so many 1's and take action against them.
If you like the competion side of things or not, it's a feature of the site and i think a good one too so why are we allowing idiots the spoil it for those who do enjoy trying to make a leader board or two

If you like the competition or the rateing idea on here it is still a feature of the site that is being ruined by a few people i'm sure, do we just sit back and allow that to happen??

I will take a look at the voting pattern and will be naming those members who consistantly only give a 1 vote so that you may thank them personally. It is totally selfish to vote 1 for every picture, and completely disregard the feelings of the members who posted the image.

So when we find out who the members are that are constanly voting us 1 or 2 we can simply ban them from our profile and they can no longer vote or see our pics, thats a great idea, why not just ban them form the site altogether if they are doing it without any reason at all !!

I still like the simple "I Like". Thats all one option to choose, count the number of likes and thats it. No feelings hurt, and no more complaints. It is very simple to understand and count. Facebook takes it another level and shows who Liked the same thing.

yep i can see that idea working, maybe clear the whole boards and just count the votes from scratch, guess the only thing is members who constantly vote dont like, they will always find a way to ruin it, but a good idea !!!

Thats why I was suggesting just one option "I Like". Thats it. Simple. That way no one can ruin it. If a person does not like it, or is doing it out of spite there is nothing they can do. They are out of luck.

if u had like or dislike, then u could probably see the members who voted that way too... other sites use that method so i would assume its not that difficult to set up...could cause ructions ofcourse, but then what doesnt here? lol
would also solve the issue of people turning their ratings off and still voting on others...

I like the idea of the "I like" voting option. Either you like or not and if not then there is nothing you can do about it. Would have to put a skip button or the likes in with it though... That way if there is a pic that is "not liked" it can be skipped without putting a "vote" on it. Great Idea!!!!

Perhaps we should educate people to hit the F5 key to regenerate the page with a different shot.
Much quicker and easier than voting!!
Then if one is moved to register an opinion it will be far more meaningful

Just one or 2 low votes will drop your average like a rock if your shooting for a leader board. These days its very hard on a average of 10 votes to get there. And the more number count just drives the odds some dummy is going to pass you a 1 for no good reason. I just gave you ten 10s darling and you earned every one!

Why dont you all just go to your preferences and turn off voting. I had a post (voting sucks) some time ago. All my pics are real. no web shots, and I think my pics are better than a (1). I went in to my preferences and just turned off voting, and I dont care anymore. simple.

I think the last post is missing the point. Yes we could turn off the voting bar on our profiles and thats it but many of us like the idea of the voting and trying to make it on to a leader board, it's a good feature of the site and makes it more interesting in my view. Why should a few idiots who muck it up stop the rest of us from enjoying it?

Read just this one entire thread & the others from the past three years and this is why nothings changed. No one can come close to an consensus on the best viable solution, let alone what a good photo looks like! So then I suggest leaving it alone and I get jumped on for not participating. Hey I've participated on this issue 3 yrs. All we have is some changes that never really worked but did help some percentage. Every ones got a different focus then a distraction off the real issue. So my last suggestion is send your voting solutions to the Captain direct or turn off your voting profile or just deal with it the best you can. Some of us have never been on the leader boards ever no matter what original extreme hard on shoe shot we post! Remember its a free site & all the other great things you can do here..Hope you get some heel love today!!! STUMAN
